Project Description:

An atypical HK street corner with an atypical look...
a context COMMONPLACE yet ENERGETIC
a site COZY yet PROMINENT
a character INDIGENOUS yet GLOBAL
a voice UNSPEAKING yet OUTSPOKEN

A LIVING ARTWORK to define the GATEWAY TO SOHO.

The project is designed as a service apartment. This unique corner building offers the best of both worlds: Instant access to vibrant city life, while safeguarding the tranquility of one's private sanctuary.

The objective is to create a landmark with a unique personality that echoes the existing characteristics of Soho District and pay an effort to revitalize the “old” urban fabric. This project demonstrates the potential of a petit site to create a signature building that remains commercially viable without compromising on design. It is also an encouragement to the development of petit-scale sites in the process of urban renewal. People reconcile the presence of an architecture when it communicates with its context. The podium wood cladding offers a natural character everchanging that speaks softly a dialogue with the matching colours and textures of the surroundings. The projecting balconies garnish the streetscape below and the skyline above in this historic and spirited district. The architectural character is depicted by jumbled colour terracotta tiling and consistent architectural detailing.

The project is completed in 2005 and is the winner of HKIA President’s Prize 2005.
